Cash for Clunkers not cash for Junkers (the car has to be running). The Obama administration has signed the new bill into law and there is already confusion over the language (at least with your hosts). Clif cannot understand how the classes of the vehicles will work out. It appears that congress does not know the difference between gross vehicle weight and vehicle weight, so the law is unclear how they define the various trucks. GVW is the amount of weight a vehicle can carry including itself i.e. a 10,000 GVW truck will carry 4,000 pounds of cargo if it weights 6,000 pounds. If you would like to be even more confused than check out theses websites www.cars.gov or www.fueleconomy.gov.

Also of note are the soon to be common stories of GM being interfered with by Politicians. It appears that Barney Franks home constituency was to have a Parts Depot closed. After a short discussion with the new president of GM, a miracle occurred and the PDC was not closed. Welcome to Government motors. Clifton shared a funny story about a guy in England collecting parking fees for 25 years who suddenly goes missing. The Zoo where he was working called the City and says send somebody out to replace him. Turns out the city thought the Zoo was getting the money and the Zoo thought the city was getting the money. Retired somewhere with 7.6 $million dollars (estimated) is a parking attendant that nobody actually know his name.

Last but not least were Glenn’s eight famous automotive flops. The winners were…. (Listen and find out) Thanks for listening and as always, you can contact us at www.horacenissan.com

June 18, 2009

Good Morning Four Corners! Lindsey Lohan’s car is no longer for sale on eBay. So now her car is missing along with $400,000 necklace she was wearing at a photo shoot. Clif read an obituary on the turn signal use, funny article from Patrick Bedard Car and Driver editor. Glenn speculated about a GM plant in the south that was bought by a company named V Auto…. Promising to build an all new car in 18 months, Glenn thought it might be Tesla the electric car manufacture. Clif was thinking it might be a large part supplier company like Magna (who lost the bid for Chrysler to Cerebus). We’ll follow the story for you.

Are you really bored? Absolutely nothing to do. Check out the Nifty Thrifty 1960 all compact car show to held in Cleveland August 14-15. The most boring cars in the last fifty years will be on display Comets, Falcons, Corvairs and Valiants will all be there, check it out at www.cometeastcarclub.org . Correction: Clifton misspoke saying he had looked up a lease on a swap lease site. He did not, he was reading about a swap lease site in an article published in Car and Driver. The swap lease sites are www.leasetrader.com and www.swaplease.com. Four corners car talk does not recommend this way to lease a car. It clearly violates the original lease contract and does not absolve the original lease from liability for miles and damage. Proceed with caution.

Cash for Clunkers ate up the last hour of the show. Is it confusing? Yes. Is it unfunded? Yes. Is it from the government? Yes… What did you expect….? Enjoy the day and thanks for listening and if you have any question you can always contact us via www.horacenissan.com .

June 11th, 2009 Show

June 11, 2009

We are not a political show, we are a car show, politics got into our business; we did not get into politician’s business. This is a very historic time occurring in the automobile business with the government supervising manufactures bankruptcies and literally stimulating the automobile market with the new “cash for clunkers” program. So we end up talking politics and the inevitable unintended consequences that come with quickly thought out legislation written by politicians who do not understand a very complicated business. Once we covered the DC crazies (comics?) we offered some lame opinions on what Lindsey Lohans macerated Maserati might be bring on the eBay sale. Clif discussed the fact that a 1970 dodge Challenger non numbered car used in the movie the “Bucket List” brought $10,000 more than a matching number car brought at the same sale. Same old story we guess, the car with a good (honest) story will always sell for more than one that doesn’t…

Horace Nissan is looking for a shuttle driver/shipping receiving clerk and a sales representative, if you are interested in either position please call Josh or Glenn for an interview.

Call us or send an email via www.horacenissan.com if you are curious about the government program “Cash for clunkers”. We have tried to keep up with this ever changing piece of legislation and are more than willing to review your auto needs to see if it is something you can take advantage of. Call Glenn or Eddie at 505-327-0366. Last item was a different Father Day gift; a miniature dash board to hold your business cards. Check it out at www.genuinehotrod.com or 800-575-1932. Thanks for listening and enjoy the day!

June 6th, 2009 Show

June 4, 2009

Interesting show today, discussed the effects of the GM bankruptcy and the difficulty that “Government Motors” will have going forward. The difficulty will be reconciling the needs of our politicians with those of a corporation. Corporations can only survive if they “build a better mousetrap” whereas politicians only survive if they give something to somebody. Those two ideas are at cross purposes.

Glenn discussed the value of a Lindsey Lohan trade. It seems that if you are a teenager with a drug problem that you actually add to the value of a used car. Glen estimates you would pay $92,000 less for a comparable 2007 Maserati quattroporte that was not owned (and probably wrecked) by Lindsey Lohan. Carfax to follow.

Should you collect a Pontiac now that the franchise is set to go away? Clif and Glenn discussed the relative merits and demerits of trying to determine whether a car should be “collected” and whether anyone could wait 40 years to find out if the car was the right one to collect… thanks for listening and as always if you are looking for a car give us a try at www.horacenissan.com
